Abstract

The observational motivation for the development of line transfer in moving atmospheres is discussed, with an emphasis on problems not solved. This is followed by a review of methods. Special attention is given to techniques developed within the past few years, and to their application and extension to problems of current astrophysical interest, with an emphasis on those involving multi-dimensional geometries, and formidable atomic coupling. Finally, some speculations on future developments are offered.
