An Alternative Application for Sewage Sludge: Black Earth

Summary
Preparation of black earth is receiving more and more interest. As an alternative processing option for sewage sludge. Black earth is a product that can be applied for greenery provisions, for forestry applications, as covering soil for waste tips, and for the slopes and shoulders of roads. It is produced by mixing sludge with a mineral additive, after which oxidation and maturing processes take place in a natural way. These processes are stimulated by turning the mixture regularly with a rotary cultivator. The moisture-absorbing capacity of the end-product is comparable with that of soils of natural origin, with the same chemical composition.
