Retinopathy of Prematurity: Treatment Approaches
Chapter
Abstract
There has been a significant increase in the survival of infants with birthweights up to 1500g since the original epidemic of the Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) in the early 1950’s with a 4–5 fold increase in survival of infants with birthweights less than 1000g, those with the highest risk of developing ROP. The increased survival of these high risk infants is probably responsible for the significant increase in cases of ROP in recent years.
