Abstract

Silicon nitride ceramics contain vitreous intergranular phase resulting from sintering additives. The rheological properties, the microstructural transformations and the oxidation resistance of nitrogen glasses with compositions close to the amorphous phase are studied. The results, compared with those for the ceramics, allow a better understanding of the change in the mechanical properties at high temperature in oxidizing environments.
