IUE Observations of Quasars in Galaxy Cluster Environments

Abstract

In previous direct imaging surveys of fields around quasars, it was found that radio-loud quasars with redshifts > 0.6 are often situated in galaxy clusters as rich as Abell class 1, while their lower redshift counterparts rarely are. We are currently engaged in a detailed study of several of these rich clusters which involves ultraviolet spectroscopy, multicolor photometry and optical multislit spectroscopy.
