Abstract

This chapter describes some techniques for computing surface wave fields with examples of their use. Since the theory of surface waves in laterally varying media set forth in Chapters 2 and 3 is essentially based on the properties of eigenfunctions and eigenvalues in one-dimensional boundary value problems for Love and Rayleigh waves discussed in Chapter 1, we begin by discussing solutions to those problems (Sections 4.1 and 4.2).
