Rigid Structural Elements Made from Polyimide Fibers
Chapter
Abstract
Using solvent-spun amorphous polyimide fibers, rigid structural elements for use in the aerospace, automotive and electrical industries can be made. The forming process uses only heat and pressure and therefore avoids the need for binder materials and long curing cycles. The excellent properties with respect to: thermostability, non-flamability, low smoke emission and low generation of toxic gases at decomposition and thermal insulation, make these products well suited for use in aircraft interiors and mass transit vehicles.
