Abstract

Experiments on the influence of a cationic surfactant additive (C14TASal+NaBr) on grid generated turbulence and on the wakes of circular cylinders indicate a change in the structure of the turbulence. The results described here show that the fluctuations perpendicular to the main flow direction are reduced and that the eduction of coherent vortices is shifted to higher critical Reynolds numbers.
