Formation of Diamine-Complex Pillars in τ-Ti (HPO4) 2 2H2O

Abstract

Our interest in the properties of layered phosphates in which the layers are pillared by in-situ formed complexes has recently extended to the τ-series1. α-Zr(HP04)2. H2O was found to give well-ordered composites with 2,2′-bipyridyl, 1,10- phenanthroline and 2, 9-dimethyl-l, 10-phenanthroline. In turn, these exchange Cu2 +, although only the first two provide evidence for subsequent coordination to form complex-pillars. This behaviour, which is different from that in the a-series2, induced us to investigate τ-Ti (HPO4) 22H2O as a host. It also provides ordered composites with these ligands, showing interesting ion-exchange properties.
