The Physico-Chemical Properties of Aerosols In Relation to Their Extinction Coefficient
A set of analytics is described to measure the physico-chemical and optical properties of tropospheric aerosols. With the measured data set and by the help of straight-forward Mie calculations it is tried to find a correlation between the physico-chemical aerosol properties and their optical properties. The evaluation scheme is presented. The agreement between calculations and measurements of the aerosol extinction coefficient was in most cases better than a factor of 2. The uncertainty in this procedure is the unknown particle bulk density, which may range between 1.4 and 2.0 g/cm3.
