Transcriptional Regulation of Rubisco Gene Expression by CO2 in Rhodospirillum rubrum

Abstract

Rubisco(E.C.4.1.1.39) in Rhodospirillum rubrum is very different from that of higher plants. It is L2(composed of only two large subunits) instead of L8S8 as in higher plants, but it is still bifunctional, catalyzing both carboxylation and oxygenation(1). The rubisco gene rbcL in R. rubrum is located on the bacterial DNA (2).
