Microscopic Dynamics of One-Dimensional Self-Gravitational Many-Body Systems
Very long time numerical simulations and analyses of the microscopic dynamics reveal the nature of the phase space dynamics of one-dimensional gravitating systems. There is a barrier which interferes with diffusion of an orbit out to the rest of the phase space. It takes a very long time to go through the barrier: e.g., for-the case of the water-bag distribution it takes 4 × 104 N crossing times.
