Synthesis and NMR Spectroscopic Studies of a New Magnesium Antibiotic Compound
The combinatorial approach to drug discovery has led to focus on heterocyclic nitrogen frameworks enjoying a splendid therapeutic record. A special branch of such compounds is the 3-alkanoyl-5-arylidene tetramic acids, pyrrolidine-2, 4-diones. These natural products possessing an enolic β,β’-tricarbonyl moiety, a hydrophobic 5-substituent and a lipophilic 3-alkanoyl-substituent, are interest complexation hosts for various metal ions such as Mg (II), Pt (II) . Their biological activity is related to their complexation properties and the mechanisms responsible for it is affected by the polarity of these complexes to transport through cell boundary.
