Effect of Crop on the Diversity and the Potential of Fungal Egg Pathogens of Cyst Nematodes

Abstract

Fungal egg pathogens are the most important factor for the natural biological control and decline of cyst nematode populations. Their occurrence and potential is dependent on different factors like crops, organic matter etc. which can be managed in agricultural systems. The effect of different monocultures as well as the effect of intercrops on the occurrence of egg pathogenic fungi and the degree of nematode egg infection was studied. The fungal egg pathogens found were isolated directly from the nematode eggs, identified by microscopic techniques and indices for species richness (R), diversity (H’) and eveness (E) were calculated. Isolates were furthermore identified by fatty-acid-methyl-ester analysis (FAME). Different cluster analysis systems were compared for correspondence of results.
