Observations of PAHs and Nanodiamonds with UKIRT
I describe various contributions made by UKIRT to studies of the structure and chemistry of polycyclic hydrocarbon molecules in the interstellar medium.

The work described here involved a number of people. First I want to pay particular credit to Tom Kerr who was a postdoctoral research fellow at Nottingham and joined UKIRT well over 10 years ago. Our collaboration has continued ever since. Nottingham’s loss was most certainly UKIRT’s gain! June McCombie also contributed greatly to the science and was co-supervisor to In-Ok Song who worked particularly on the 3.3 μm PAH feature. Radmila Topalovic was the second PhD student involved and her thesis contains UKIRT studies of nanodiamond spectra.
Financial support from STFC, PPARC, the RAS and The University of Nottingham is gratefully acknowledged. Some of the figures included here were first published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
