Film and the Reconstruction of Memory

Chapter

Abstract

In this chapter, I want to introduce the discussion on memory and memorials as part of the process of transition to democracy. After presenting the theoretical arguments, I wish to tell a brief account of the transition to democracy and the path that led to the Pacto del Olvido to finally analyze three movies that have introduced the discussion on the civil warrant the dictatorship, namely, Soldados de Salamina (David Trueba 2002), Las Trece Rosas (Emilio Martínez-Lázaro 2007), and Salvador Puig Antich (Manuel Huerga 2006).
