Abstract
The species is indigenous to south and southeast Asia. The species is extensively distributed throughout Indo-Malesia and from Melanesia to Polynesia and is widely cultivated in these areas, making it impossible to differentiate between indigenous and naturalised occurrences. It is now cultivated pantropically in south America, central America, the Caribbean, Florida, Africa and Australia.
