Measuring Quality of Life in Canadian Municipalities
Municipalities have a growing role in sustainable development and providing for quality of life, as their responsibilities increase in number and complexity. City hall now needs improved means to plan and manage, involving the community, and to demonstrate transparency and accountability to citizens and the other orders of government. This article is intended to give the reader a brief overview of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Quality of Life Reporting System. This will include a discussion of the history of the system, its various uses, structure of indicators and issue-areas, or ‘‘domains’’, key findings of the most recent series of reports, and plans for future expansion of scope and content.
