Samenvatting
Door de complexiteit van tabaksrook is beschrijving van de toxiciteit van roken lastig. Sigarettenrook bevat een mengsel van duizenden stoffen - in gas- en deeltjesvorm - met een samenstelling die varieert met het type sigaret en met de wijze van roken. Sigaretten worden in anti-rookcampagnes, vooral in de Verenigde Staten, vaak gekwalificeerd als een ‘drug delivery system’ van de verslavende stof nicotine. Deze benadering is vanuit de optiek van de toxicoloog wel erg simplistisch.
