Samenvatting

Beenverlenging door middel van distractie van botsegmenten met behulp van externe fixatie met als doel het vormen van regeneratief botweefsel werd in 1952 door Anderson beschreven (Anderson, 1952). Bij de Anderson-fixateur diende de patiënt gedurende de gehele procedure in bed te blijven. Eind jaren zeventig ontwikkelde Wagner een lichtgewicht unilaterale externe fixateur, waarmee de patiënt mobiel kon zijn en zijn been gedeeltelijk kon belasten (Wagner, 1978). De Wagner-methode voor beenverlenging week af van die van Anderson en anderen (Moseley, 1991; Paterson, 1990).
