Samenvatting
Dit hoofdstuk is gewijd aan de verworven pathologische afwijkingen van de aorta. Aangeboren aorta-afwijkingen en pathologische afwijkingen van de aortaklep worden elders in dit boek besproken. De aorta heeft een relatief eenvoudige structuur, zowel anatomisch als functioneel, wat niet wegneemt dat hij kan worden aangetast door diverse aandoeningen die kunnen leiden tot ernstige acute situaties. Dankzij de huidige diagnostische mogelijkheden en cardiothoracale chirurgische technieken kan de dikwijls infauste prognose van deze afwijkingen door een agressieve aanpak worden verbeterd.
