Kortademigheid

Kortademigheid of dyspneu is een subjectieve sensatie die kan worden omschreven als een abnormale en onaangename gewaarwording van (moeilijkheden met) de ademhaling. In veel gevallen is de huisarts de eerste die met deze klacht geconfronteerd wordt. Andere betrokken disciplines kunnen zijn longarts, cardioloog, internist, neuroloog en psychiater. De presentatie is zeer divers. Kortademigheid kan gepresenteerd worden als zeer acuut of chronisch, als houdingsafhankelijk of als inspanningsgerelateerd. De ernst kan variëren van lichte klachten tot ernstige benauwdheid, waarvoor direct ingrijpen noodzakelijk is.
