Zusammenfassung

A range of basically similar atrial overdrive pacing algorithms have been recently designed to prevent the onset of atrial tachyarrhythmia (AT) in patients with conventional indications for pacing [1–10]. These algorithms aim at achieving a high percentage of atrial pacing by a dynamic, slight overdrive of the sinus rhythm, without significantly increasing the mean atrial rate. The available literature indicates a high success of the overdrive algorithms in terms of reduced total AT burden in a portion of a patient cohort, while a considerable number of patients still see no benefit from such algorithms [2, 3, 11–13]. Current research is therefore focusing on identifying clinical predictors of success or failure of atrial overdrive pacing therapy.
