Abstract

The author presents his more than 30 years’ experience in treating the functional and cosmetic deformities of the abdominal wall by using open methods to treat rectus diastasis and mid-line hernias associated with dermolipectomy and mini-dermolipectomy. In 1989 he changed his own conception in mini-abdominoplasty technique realizing that the rectus plication should not be limited to the lower abdomen but in it extension at all from the pubic bone to the Xiphoydes process; no skin resection when there were no flabbiness or redundant skin, using the pre-existent scars, just treating the contend, without adding longer scars. Then from 1991 the author did his research project in adapting endoscopic methods to the subcutaneous territory and from 1992 started doing endoscopic subcutaneous rectus plication to treat patients with no redundant skin. With around 300 cases done during the last 25 years, some patients with more the 20 years follow-up, presenting with optimal functional and cosmetic results the method, demonstrating the efficacy and longevity of the method gave the enthusiasm to the author to bring the technique to the next level by incorporating daVinci Surgical System in his practice up-grading the subcutaneoscopic rectus plication technique to Muscle Aponeurotic Robotic Core Muscle Plication by introducing the robotic method and the instruments he designed to perform a gasless subcutaneous rectus plication.
