Summary
Special educational studies have been conducted on children with learning disabilities since the 1960s in the United States. These children have poor school records even though they are intellectually normal without mental retardation and have no visual, hearing, or motor impairment. They have no special problems at home and have had a normal growth history. In Japan, the definition and concept of learning disability have not been established, although the educational field began to pay attention to learning disabilities some years ago. The history, opinions of experts, and studies of learning disability are described here regarding both medical and educational aspects.
