Ras and c-myc Oncoprotein Expression in Human Colorectal Tumors
Abstract
We review our results on the use of monoclonal antibodies (M. Abs) Y13 259 and MYC1 9E10 to the ras p21 and c-myc p62 oncoproteins respectively in human tumors and tumor-like conditions of the colorectum. A total of 78 tissue sections were analysed immunohistochemically and comprised the following: 42 adenocarcinomas with 8 normal mucosae neighbouring the tumor, 25 adenomas (with or without dysplasia and with in situ carcinoma) and 3 hyperplastic polyps. The main conclusions were the following: 1. All but one adenocarcinomas expressed both ras and myc oncoproteins at high levels. 2. All adenomas showed higher expression for the ras p21 when compared with the respective sections of c-myc p62. 3. All normal intestinal mucosae and the 3 benign hyperplastic polyps were negative.
