Palliative Treatment from the Surgical Point of View

Abstract

While the published literature usually discriminates between curative and palliative resection of gastric carcinoma, these terms are frequently not defined, although the so-called R-classification established by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) in 1987 [1] provides a good basis for defining the result of the surgical procedure:
