Effect of Ni Substitution on the Superconducting Properties in Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2Oy
Abstract
We have observed the effect of the substitution of Cu with Ni in Bi2Sr2Ca1Cu2−xNixOy (X=0, 0.02, 0.04) single crystals grown in air by Travelling Solvent Floating Zone (TSFZ) method. The temperature dependence of magnetization suggests the possibility of inhomogeneity or phase segregation in as grown single crystals due to nonuniform distribution of Ni. However, after post annealing in air we could obtain homogeneous single crystals. The superconducting transition temperature decreases linearly with Ni concentration and shows no broadening of transition width. Although ρa and ρc remain nearly at the same values, ρb decreases monotonically with Ni concentration.
