Fabrication of Superconducting Coil by Bi2212 Silver Sheathed Tapes

Abstract
A pancake-coil was successfully made which could generate a 1.6T magnetic field at 4.2K, by applying a partial melt and slow cooling method to wide silver sheathed Bi-2212 tape. The partial melt and slow cooling process was also shown to be effective for making superconducting joints. In order to investigate the possibility of application at higher temperatures, magnetic properties were compared between ion-irradiated and non-irradiated Bi-2212 single crystals. Ion-irradiation was confirmed to be effective for the improvement of an irreversibility field.
