Summary

The Saddle Prosthesis was designed to treat patients with extensive loss of acetabular bone from any cause and was inserted in 76 cases of failed, aseptic, and infected total hip arthroplasties between 1979 and 1985 and recently also in some cases of acetabular tumors. Following analysis in 1987, the design has been changed. Freedom of rotation of the saddle has been integrated with respect to motion, muscle function, comfort, longevity, and modular use.
