Abstract

We have found that THz radiation is emitted into free space from as-grown YBCO films under external magnetic fields by exciting with femtosecond laser pulses. The radiation is observed even after removing the external fields. The radiation intensity decreases with approaching the transition temperature and a hysteresis is observed between increasing and decreasing temperature. The radiation is interpreted in terms of the ultrafast modulation of the shielding or persistent current and the hysteresis may be associated with the irreversible movement of the magnetic flux in the films.
