Zusammenfassung
Beim Great Basin handelt es sich um einen riesigen, natürlichen Wüstenkessel, der die heutigen Staaten Utah und Nevada umfaßt sowie Teile Colorados, Wyomings, Idahos, Oregons und Kaliforniens. Auch ein kleines Randgebiet des nördlichen Arizona wird dieser Kulturregion zugeordnet. Nach allen Seiten hin ist das Gebiet von Hochland umgeben. Im Osten erheben sich die Wasatch und Rocky Mountains, im Westen liegt die Sierra Nevada, im Südwesten das Colorado- und im Norden das Columbia-Plateau.
