Zusammenfassung

In den letzten 100 Jahren hat sich die mittlere Temperatur der Erdoberfläche um etwa 0,6 bis 0,8°C erhöht, Bild 20.1. Diese Temperatur korreliert mit der Zunahme der CO2-Konzentration in der Erdatmosphäre. CO2 sowie verschiedene andere Gase erzeugen eine Erwärmung der Atmosphäre, da diese das sichtbare Licht (kurzwellige elektromagnetische Wellen) in Wärme umwandeln (längerwellige elektromagnetische Wellen, Infrarot-Strahlung), die weniger gut in das Weltall abgestrahlt wird und somit die Atmosphäre langfristig erwärmt. Dieser Effekt wird für die solare Erwärmung der Gewächshäuser bzw. Treibhäuser (Greenhouses) angewandt.
