Herzklappenfehler können erworben oder angeboren sein. Zu den wich-tigsten erworbenen Ursachen gehören Infektionskrankheiten und Krankheiten des rheumatischen Formenkreises. Hinsichtlich der Beurteilung der körperlichen Belastbarkeit ist bei zumal ausgeheilter Grunderkrankung jedoch eher die hämodynamische Situation und nicht die Genese der Klappenveränderung entscheidend. Manche der nachfolgend genannten Empfehlungen gelten also unverändert auch für die entsprechenden angeborenen Klappenveränderungen gleichen Schweregrads.
