Abstract

Small deep seated tumors constitute a surgical problem. They are often difficult to find with conventional techniques and the amount of brain tissue which must be destroyed to reach the tumor may be fairly large. Ideally they should be treated stereotactically, but it is difficult to create a stereotactic lesion, which is sufficiently large to cover the tumor. The present communication describes a method to use stereotactic cryosurgery. The procedure was done in the CT-scanner in order to make it possible to monitor the size of the lesion intraoperatively.
