Parallel Flow in the Gap
Abstract
We shall start now to work out some fundaments for the so-called static gas-bearings, as they are used for gymbal bearings. We can distinguish thrust bearings from journal bearings, according to the supporting force lying in the direction of the axis or perpendicularly to it. A characteristical factor of the statical gas-bearings consists in the gases and the air being supplied by orifices, which are fed from a container. From the orifices the gas enters into the gap of the bearing and flow through it. In consequence of the excess pressure buoyancy is effected in a resting bearing. The movement with gymbal bearings is negligible.
