Abstract

About 150 years ago the equilibrium function of the labyrinth was discovered after the inner ear had been believed for centuries to be solely associated with hearing. This seems a long time, and yet, despite the training of big guns on the target, such as the high-gain amplifier and oscillograph, the electronmicroscope, and the computer, we are left with a formidable list of unsolved problems, some of which will be highlighted in this paper.
