Zusammenfassung
Kernaufgabe palliativmedizinischer Versorgung ist stets die lebensverbessernde, leidenslindernde und möglichst belastungsarme Behandlung des Patienten gemäß dessen Therapiezielen. Demgegenüber ist Übertherapie definiert als eine medizinische Behandlung, die voraussehbar den Patienten mehr schädigt als nützt, seinen Zielen nicht dient. Die weltweit zunehmende Häufigkeit von Übertherapie wird in den USA mit 29 % angegeben, teilweise werden international auch 89 % erreicht. Selbst Papst Franziskus sprach vor der World Medical Association über die notwendige Vermeidung von Übertherapie.
