The debate concerning research with the genome and genome intervention dates back from the end of last century. However, due to this new technique, the debate is more urgent, since its application to the human genome may become reality in a short time. Portuguese Constitution and Law tend to evolute in a liberal perspective, so that we can defend that in the future there may be legal conditions for a broader gene therapy research for therapeutic purposes, even in the germinal line.
