Arthroscopic Treatment of Elbow Fractures: How I Do It!

Abstract

Treatment of articular elbow fractures consists in precise articular reduction and firm fixation to permit early rehabilitation. The arthroscopic approach achieves reduction and fixation of the articular fragment with a better evaluation of associated lesions compared with the open surgery. It also minimizes the damages to the periarticular soft tissues and may have a lower morbidity compared with open surgery. Best indications seem to be Mason type II radial head fractures, Bryan-Morrey types I and II capitellar fractures, and coronoid fractures. No prospective studies have compared arthroscopic and open techniques, and the literature is constituted only of case report and retrospective case series.
