Septum-Based Lateral or Medial Mammaplasty

Chapter

Abstract

Reduction mammaplasty has become a well-established procedure in terms of safety and expected esthetic outcomes. The literature is replete with advocates and opponents of each of the existent numerous techniques. Each pedicle has its advantages and inconveniences. It is difficult, however, to assign primary responsibility for complications or unsatisfactory results to the pedicle type only. The global outcome in breast reduction is attributed to many factors such as skin quality, patient’s age and expectations, degree of ptosis, and, last but not least, to surgeon’s experience. The vertical scar mammaplasty has become very popular with many surgeons because it provides long-standing good esthetic results with minimal scars [1–5]. The vertical technique is far more than just a scar; it is a concept [6, 7] in which the fundamentals elements are breast shaping and remodeling.
