Gold surfaces in perchloric acid: Au(110) – perchlorate

Abstract

In this chapter the experimental results on adsorption of perchlorate ion on Au(110) surface is described.

The system was studied with CV and EC-STM in 0.1 M HClO4 and with CV in 10 mM HClO4 solution. No adsorption/desorption CV peaks are found, and the (1 × 2) reconstruction of the substrate was observed at positive potentials. The clean surface oxidizes at 1.0–1.5 V (SCE) and is reduced at 0.8 V (SCE) [1, 2].
