Gold surfaces in perchloric acid: Au(100) – perchlorate

Abstract

In this chapter the experimental results on adsorption of perchlorate ion on Au(100) surface is described.

CV measurements were done in 2 mM HClO4, 0.1 mM HClO4, and 10 mM HClO4 solutions. No ClO4 adsorption/desorption peaks are reported, evidence for weak adsorption. However, at 0.5 V (SCE), a lifting of the Au(100) reconstruction was observed. Gold oxidation happens at 1.0–1.5 V (SCE) and reduction at 0.8 V (SCE) [1, 2, 3, 4].
