Hydrohalic acid anion interaction with gold surfaces: Au(110) – iodide
In this chapter the experimental results on adsorption of iodide ion on Au(110) surface is described.
In 5 mM MClO4 + 5 mM MI solution (M = K+, Cs+), besides mixed M + I co-adsorption layers above −0.6 V (SCE), e.g., of (2 × 4) structure and CsI2 stoichiometry, a pair of cation-independent ordered iodide adlayer phases have been discerned between −0.35 V and 0.2 V (SCE). The first compressible phase (“I”) transforms sharply above 0 V (SCE) into the slightly higher coverage, approximately (3 × 2) phase (“II”) of coverage θI= 0.67 ML .
