Gehören Weiter- und Fortbildung des Chirurgen in die Hand des Staates?
Zusammenfassung
Chir. Weiterbildung (W) ist Einführung in die sich ständig fortentwickelnde wissenschaftliche und praktische Chirurgie. Staatlicher Eingriff in Form und Methodik der W, in Abgrenzung und Neuverteilung des Gebietes oder in den Abschluß der W (z.B. durch eine Staatsprüfung) brächte nur Erstarrung, Begrenzung und Niveausenkung. Fortbildung (lebenslanges Studium) muß „maßgeschneidert“, auf die speziellen Bedürfnisse jedes einzelnen Chirurgen abgestellt und in eigener Regie durchgeführt werden — eine Gemein-schaftsaufgabe aller chirurgischen Gesellschaften, Vereinigungen und Verbände.

Summary
Postgraduate education in a specialty such as surgery demands flexibility both in the acquisition of facts and in methods of learning; this is unlikely to be provided for by state-sponsored programs, which will ultimately lead to a deterioriation of standards. The proposed laws to regulate specialization, including state authority to inaugurate new specialities and subspecialties as well as state-sponsored specialty examinations, must therefore be resisted. Continuing medical education (postgraduate courses not necessarily leading to qualifications) is equally unlikely to benefit from state intervention. Programs sponsored on a regional basis by professional organizations and tailored to individual needs will be much more valuable to the surgeon.
