Trace Elements in Ferro-Alloy Deoxidants and Their Influence on Non-Metallic Inclusion Compositions
Abstract
The use of the electron probe microanalyser to trace the sources of apparently exogeneous oxide inclusions in deoxidised steel melts is described. Correlation of inclusion analyses with melt oxygen contents and amounts of trace elements added with the ferro-alloys indicate that 98% or more of the inclusion population can be adequately explained by the purity of the alloys used. Ferro-silicon was found to contain calcium and aluminium and ferro-manganese and silicomanganese contained titanium.
