Abstract
Resulting from this situation following problems arise for the study presented:
Regarding the vast amount of existing but partly contradictory findings it becomes necessary to study again the total system of the avian lung and air sacs in a large number of species, without undertaking the task to sift and compile all data dispersed in the literature with their many faults. This only would cause the study to swell in volume but not in clarity. During a revision of the literature one is strikingly puzzled that important relations and facts have been considered only incompletely and usually have been reported incorrectly.
