Abstract
The processes that generate the microemulsion state are complex and versatile. This explains why no exact definition has yet been found for the term microemulsion. It is a transparent solution of a colloidal-disperse type containing water, oil and surfactants. Nevertheless, a microemulsion is indeed generated spontaneously and this may be the reason why researchers have shown such minor interest in the mechanisms underlying its formation.
