Abstract

The structure, function, physiology, normal processes of preservation and maintenance of the skeleton, as well as the pathologic processes underlying osteoporosis are briefly outlined in this chapter. Detailed knowledge of these processes is essential for directed research, development, and successful application of preventive and therapeutic drugs.
