Sklera und Episklera

Zusammenfassung

Die Sklera ist die avaskuläre Hülle des Auges, die aus irregulär verflochtenen, festen und elastischen Kollagenfasern besteht. Die Sklera ist sehr widerstandsfähig, jedoch mechanisch verformbar. Unter erhöhtem Augeninnendruck dehnt sich der Bulbus beispielsweise noch bis zum 40. Lebensjahr. Die Sklera lagert physiologischerweise Wasser ein; bei Dehydratation wird das Gewebe durchsichtig. Die Sklera wird von zahlreichen Blutgefäßen und Nerven penetriert.
